There is no single ideal technique for oil painting, and each painter uses different techniques depending on the desired result. Each subject also defines a different approach, and it's impossible to say in advance which technique to use.
In this example, I will limit myself to analyzing what I did during the creation of this particular painting. If I were to paint the same subject again, I probably wouldn't proceed in the same way overall. However, the basic principles are not very complicated, but practice, the search for life, and the concretization of the subject, colors, and values require experience, skill, sure gestures, constant vigilance, and probably what is called "talent," which one either has or doesn't have naturally, as in all areas of art.
This analysis was not easy; I forced myself to observe myself and note what I was doing. Usually, I don't even remember how I proceeded once the painting is finished.
Therefore, it's not about following what I write to the letter; the result would likely be very disappointing. This is simply a response to the questions I am often asked. That's why I always speak in the first person singular; it's just an example not "to follow" but "to reflect upon."
