Step 3/47

← Step 2/47→ Step 4/47

I place a sheet of frisket film (transparent self-adhesive plastic) which I cut out to only reveal the background. (This technique comes from my illustrator friends who work with an airbrush. It saves me time but is not essential, especially since it's not really suited for oil painting. I've only been using it for a very short time. Before, I was very careful not to go beyond the drawing, and I used to erase larger parts of the canvas with turpentine, which was a bit of a hassle.) The cutter blade must be new so you don't have to press hard and cut into the canvas. CAUTION, THIS IS DANGEROUS FOR THE CANVAS!
