About BARRAYA

Press Extract

Barraya has made his choices. He builds his universe based solely on the pleasure he gets from the act of painting. We tend to forget that painting is, first and foremost, making love with the canvas. And Barraya makes love very well with the painting... The canvas gives itself to him with fervor and passion.
The result of this union is eloquent. Possessed by the beauty of a world built by man, Barraya strives to express his wonder on the canvas. He succeeds admirably, and his graphic exploits bear witness to this.
Barraya was more influenced by the Beatles than by Rembrandt. Yves Montand and Elvis Presley impacted him more than Monet or Renoir. It's not just pictorial influences that mark a painter. There are other marks that determine a creator's expression. Edith Piaf and Mistinguett sing in the streets painted by Barraya. One even gets the impression that the world will finally resemble the canvases painted by Barraya.
Faced with the urban and social disorder that weighs on us, Barraya paints a calm and serene universe that remains within our reach: all we need to do is look, learn to look. And the function of painting consists, first and foremost, in re-teaching us how to look, to re-appropriate our gaze. In this sense, Barraya admirably fulfills his contract and opens our eyes to the charm of the world.
